Le Tanneur designs every collection in France, in our own studio. Some of our bags are made in workshops in France; others are made by international partners chosen for the same standard of craft. Below, we introduce both sides of our collection: the bags our customers choose most, and the lines made entirely in France.
Our bestselling lines
Emilie is one of our most requested styles, offered as both a handbag and a briefcase-style bag suited to daily professional use, in grained or smooth leather with a three-compartment layout. Emie brings together smooth and pieced leather in a softer, more relaxed silhouette, built with multiple interior compartments for everyday organization. Juliette is our hobo-shaped line, designed for a triple carry: crossbody, shoulder, or top handle, in soft grained leather.
Our lines made in France
Hortense, our line of tote and bucket bags in double-face grained leather, is made in our workshops in the Pays de la Loire. Louise, totes and bucket bags in two-tone double-face grained leather, is made there too. Sans Couture (Without Seams), our founding piece, awarded the Silver Prize at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition, is designed and made in the same workshops. Madeleine, our hobo and shoulder bags, is also designed and made in France.
The leather and the craft
Our leather comes exclusively from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), a certification that assesses a tannery's environmental impact and guarantees rigorous traceability of the material. We favor full-grain leather, the noblest part of the hide, and work with our tanning partners to bring out its grain and patina over time.
