How to take care of your leather bag ?

Have you ever touched one of our creations? The texture, the grain, the soft yet resistant leather... It’s all a question of craftsmanship and care and a very studied number of steps we take before our designs fall into your hands. To make sure your Le Tanneur items remain beautiful and soft, we’ve developed a guide on how to care for your leather.

It’s nothing complicated just a few simple steps.

Leather : A material needing specific care

Particularly resistant, leather is perfect to accompany you everywhere, every day. However, it remains sensitive to light, weather and everyday use... so it's a material that can change shape and appearance depending on the adventures you have with it.

A Le Tanneur bag can follow you for a lifetime, but this is normal if it gets a few wrinkles over time. The key to keeping your leather bag, smooth or grained, beautiful as it was on the first day: maintenance, which takes place in three steps.

Step 1: Dusting and cleaning

Dust the leather with the brush and then remove any absorbed dirt with our gel nettoyantApply a dab of the gel onto the dry cloth, then to the leather, and clean in a circular motion. We recommend that you test the gel with a less visible spot first. Allow to dry 15 minutes.

Step 2: Nourish

Once the fabric dries, it is important to nourish it. Rich in beeswax and natural ingredients, our nourishing lotion penetrates the leather and provides all the necessary nutrients. Take your dry cloth and apply it in the same way as the cleaning gel, in a circular motion spreading the nourishing lotion evenly. Just a dab of lotion is enough. Remove excess lotion with the dry cloth. Allow to dry.

Step 3: Protect

Our waterproofing spray adds an invisible protective layer. It will protect your leather from the weather and eventual accidents. Spray evenly from about 15 centimeters away, then allow to dry.

Our 5 tips to keep your bag in top shape:

  • Store it in a fabric pouch : Leather is a breathable material. When storing it, please do so in the Le Tanneur fabric pouch it came in, designed to safekeep your bag.
  • Keeping it in shape even when not in use, leather tends to deform. To keep its original shape fill it ideally with silk paper maintaining its original form.
  • Emptying the bag : we all know the good it can do. It's the same for him. Empty it regularly, get rid of any dust it might contain.
  • Do not hang it : this deforms the handles and can change its general appearance. Instead, place it in a clean, dry space.
  • Arrange the interior : Use different colored pouches to organize your bags interior. They will allow you to find items much easier and can also to protect your bag’s inner lining.
